Head of Legal | Impact-led Fundraising Platform Scale-up | London/Hybrid

Harmonic is thrilled to be collaborating with one of the top online fundraising platforms, for social impact and charitable causes. This company is disrupting the fundraising space as its impact is directly provided to the end user. In 2023 they have grown nearly 90% from 2022 levels and have extensive plans for international expansion. As they continue to expand their presence in the UK they are looking to enter new markets, they are seeking a Head of Legal to join their team and support the CEO and SLT with the increasing workload and ongoing development and growth.

About the role

The position of Head of Legal offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to all facets of governance and operations. You will collaborate across various functions, addressing both strategic and tactical legal issues, providing compliance guidance, and offering counsel on our product. As a role newly established, you will directly report to our Co-Founder and CEO, holding responsibility for constructing a high-performing legal function.

This role is dynamic, presenting continuous prospects for professional development. Regardless of whether your background is in startups or corporate settings, a successful candidate will recognise the significant impact they can have within a smaller organisation. They will embrace the chance to shape their own role and influence the company's future.

It's important to note that this position is based in London and requires a minimum of two days per week at our old street office.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all legal aspects at the business in collaboration with CEO, COO, Sales, Growth, and People teams
  • Establish scalable processes supporting risk and commercial decision-making
  • Efficiently review contracts, providing clear redlines and implementing robust contract management procedures
  • Navigate complex investment scenarios and manage the EMI share scheme
  • Provide embedded legal advice, supporting people team and leaders on UK and international employment legislation
  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations in operating jurisdictions, including policy and procedure establishment
  • Manage data compliance aligning with Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR, with knowledge of ISO 27001 Certification

Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer/solicitor with top law firm training (6-10 years PQE)
  • In-house experience, preferably in a startup or scale-up environment
  • Knowledge of public sector or regulated industries; willingness to expand expertise into Employment and IP
  • Proficiency in data and privacy law in the UK and internationally
  • Commercial acumen gained through in-house support for negotiating and reviewing high-volume complex commercial agreements
  • Ability to operate at a fast pace in ambiguous situations and manage competing priorities

Remuneration

Salary £90,000 to £135,000 (Flexible for the right candidate)
